*This is a post I wrote back on the 3rd of August but wanted to share it here*
Day 22 of a Juice Fast and feeling incredible. Started on coconut water only from yesterday (still having the occasional alkaline green drink). There have definitely been some tough days of detox but now being through most of it my energy is through the roof! Feeling strong and still doing strength exercises like muscle ups easily – actually gained strength and flexibility!
You gain so much mental clarity, skin clears up, old injuries are heal so fast you can’t believe it (my old shoulder injury is almost completely healed!), and you get such a deeper understanding of yourself through introspection when you don’t have food as an escape from your emotions. (I’m a health freak and eat very clean, so I was surprised to find what emotions I’d had repressed through food).
Now, I am in no way talking bad about food, it’s incredible and absolutely needed for our health, but I would say that just about everyone is attached to it and subconsciously uses it as a crutch. Sometimes it’s good to give the body (and mind) a rest from digesting food constantly and let it completely heal itself. Just like when a wild animal gets hurt in nature, it doesn’t go stuff itself with food – it fasts, completely rests, and lets it’s body do what it’s designed to do … HEAL!
This is all very counter to mainstream nutrition, however we need to look into why and use common sense. We need to consider who is fuelling this information. Would it be in the best interests of the food, medical and pharmaceutical industries to have everyone healthy and eating less? Or does it play better for them if we’re all sick and stuffing our faces? At the end of the day, mainstream doesn’t seem to be doing a very good job of keeping people healthy. Just something to think about.
*Disclaimer: Fasting is great for healing old injuries and cleansing/resetting your body after years of poor diet/lifestyle choices that so many of us have had for years. It’s not healthy to be used for weight loss or as a long term solution. At the end of the day, listen to your body – not your addictions – and it will show you the way. When you’re done fasting/healing, your body will tell you with true hunger. Eat when you have true hunger – to not eat when you have true hunger is to starve yourself. However most people can’t tell the difference between true hunger and addictions/cravings/poor habits because of a lifetime of poor habits – but that’s a subject for an entirely different post. Always consult a doctor/health professional before doing any fast.*
